Default Bulu Point aggression

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this with their Bulu Points. With just the ambient room light they are very calm, non-aggressive and school together. Less than 5 minutes after I turn the tank light on the alpha male goes ballistic and starts chasing everyone in the tank especially the beta male. I turn the tank light off and he instantly becomes calm again.

This is true for most petros. How many fish do you have? In what size tank? What's the male/female ratio?

125 gal. 2 males, 5 females and one I'm not sure of. It's either a really subdued male of a female that has more orange in it. I have some famula Nkondwe I am growing out and am thinking of adding them in the tank soon.

You're tank is way too under stocked, and your going to have this happen unless you can increase the colony. Waiting for fry to go out will take too long, so it might be better to add about 15 - 20 grown Petros too the tank, but you will have to increase your filtration to handle the extra bio load, and pay attention to eat quality to change your water change schedule as needed.

The Nkondwe are around 3 inches so I don't know if I'd call them fry anymore. Safe to add them at this size?

The nkondwe will be safe but most possibly will not help the red bulu be less aggressive

I agree with Sunny, If you only keep the reds you have, you will most likely lose most of them at the time they get to the point where the alpha male decides he wants to start getting serious about chaseing the females.

Hows the reds doing? Have you been able to add any other fish to the tank . The additions may not even have to be petros.(oop! I didn't say that did I).
