Default Adding to a colony?

Hey guys.

Looking for success vs failure stories and techniques. Ideas are welcome from all.

I know this is risky...but I know that people do it. At times I guess you have to.

How have you added extra petros to your petro colony.

I am thinking of adding females to my m'toto colony one day and wanted to wrap my head around it.

I know that adding only one is crazy.
I know about changing the rocks or removing them. and so on.

What have you guys done that has helped you succeed?

Don, Didn't you use some small aquariums? That's some breakthrough stuff man. Please share if you would.

All with experience in this area...please chime in. Others welcome to.

This is just a discussion. Not a ring to fight in. We do this together.

Thank. you. and. Rock. On.

John, here's what I usually do: do a water change, take out all rocks, add new fish and fill tank back up and put back rocks a week or two later if everybody is getting along well. Of course there are various factors that come into play here that dictate success or failure, and keep in mind that there's no 100% foolproof way about doing this. Also, adding a larger group of fish is better than adding one or two if you're talking about adding more of the same variant and I've usually had no problems adding a whole new variant. The bigger the change in the environment when you add new fish the better (big change in scape, big change in stock, etc.).

I added 3 WC females to my existing Bulu colony. It did not go well with just putting them in at first. I then used a large tupper ware container with holes drilled in it. I stcuk each fish in one and sunk in the tank for 24 hours. I then released and it worked great. First 24 hours is when deaths occur. After that they accept.

Don,

If I remember correctly, the females got a little beat up during your first attempt to introduce them.

How long did you let them heal before reintroducing them using the Tupperware?

LIke, were they a week solid.

Or were they a couple months of healing solid?

And when you did it the second time...How did the existing colony react or act towards the females in the Tupperware? DId they mess with them at all? or were they just permited to be apart of the group and only got the same level of "attention" as the rest of the colony?

And Did you do them all at the same time? One tupperware or three?

Thanks
